She earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees in music from West Virginia University, where her major area of study was the classical flute. She has studied the Irish flute style with several of the great Irish players, including Seán Keane, Mike Rafferty, and Kevin Crawford, and has worked particularly closely with Justin Murphy, the gifted American player. Before moving to the Washington area she was on the music department faculties at Frostburg State University in Maryland and West Virginia Wesleyan College.
Keith plays the ten-string Irish bouzouki (aka cittern), Irish tenor banjo, guitar, and bodhrán, or Irish frame drum. He has studied bouzouki with Robin Bullock, Zan McLeod, and Beth Patterson, and his background includes many years of trumpet and piano study, plus extensive work as a rock and blues guitarist. He graduated from the State University of New York at Albany and the University of Oregon, earning Bachelor's and Master's degrees in geography. Until recently his career has been spent developing computer applications in the service of nature conservation. He was the Director of Conservation Systems for The Nature Conservancy, and was a co-founder of the BioDiversity Institute and the NatureServe organization. In the past year he has decided to pursue his musical interests on a full-time basis.
